Tips on Eating out
Eating out can be a challenge for people with celiac disease, as they have to be extremely careful about what they eat out at school, work, restaurants or parties. With experience and knowledge, one is able to figure out dishes at restaurant, parties or friend's home that are gluten free.
The golden rule while eating out is
"IF IN DOUBT LEAVE IT OUT"

Tips
Consume foods that require minimal processing e.g. go for grilled chicken /fish/meat rather than kebabs, battered meat.

Consume foods that are served in a pure form e.g fresh fruits, fruit juices, nuts (not coated/roasted), salads, boiled and stir fried vegetables (no added sauce), grilled vegetables, grilled paneer, tandoori vegetable and meat preparations.

Avoid any kind of breads (Indian/ Western) and main course Soup (this may have wheat starch as a thickener). Clear Soups (not containing barley broth) can be consumed.

South Indian foods are good choices like Dosas, Vadas, and Uttapams except that one has to watch out for Rawa/ Sooji preparations like Rawa Iddli, Rawa Dosa, Upma etc.

While eating Chinese cuisine, people with Celiac Disease should watch out for soya sauce or black bean sauce in any preparation. Rice noodles, cellophane noodles, fried rice should be consumed in place of regular noodles.

While eating at a restaurant offering an a la carte menu always inform the chef about your requirement for gluten free diet and modifications can be made while the dishes are being prepared.

Never hesitate to ask your host/chef about a particular food if you have any doubt/query about its ingredients.
